The Scouting Season is here - Register Anytime!
Memorial Day marks the start of summer in the US, but each year Scouts gather at cemeteries across the country to lay flags at the headstones of our veterans. This is an important opportunity for Scouts to see what "service" really means. They learn how to recognize a headstone honoring a veteran, including their dates and branches of service. With enough Scouts on hand, the task goes quickly but the experience - of service - is lasting. There are two opportunities to assist, at Santa Monica's Woodlawn Cemetery (coordinated by the Elks) and at the VA in Westwood.
Coordinated by the local Elks the Saturday prior to Memorial Day.
On Memorial Day, there will be a ceremony at Woodlawn open to the public. Scouts may attend. There will be a luncheon immediately thereafter where help from Scouts is welcomed. Then their help with removing the flags in the early afternoon is greatly appreciated.
The SM Elks gives generously to the Pack to defray the cost of our operations, in turn, we should volunteer to help them out.
